The number of sufferers worldwide is currently estimated to be about 135 million; this number is expected to rise to almost 300 million by year 2025. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Department of Health (DOH) estimate that diabetes affects between 5 and 10 million Filipinos at present, more than half of which are not aware that they have the disease. Shrimp is a type of sea food which is known to elevate cholesterol levels. A serving of 3.5 ounces of shrimp has approximately 200 mg of cholesterol. That’s a full day’s allotment for a person with heart disease. For everyone else, that is 100 mg short of the 300 mg limit. This makes shrimp a no-no for people with high blood pressure.

Sitting highly linked to Type 2 Diabetes

A new study revealed that the amount of time spent sitting down presented a higher risk of developing diabetes in women than in men.

The study showed that women who remained seated for the majority of hours in a single day have higher levels of insulin as well as other chemicals that would contribute to the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, such as C-reactive protein, leptin, and interleukin 6.
