A cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. The lens inside the eye works focusing light onto the retina for clear vision and eye focus. This lens is primarily made of water and protein. However, some of the protein cluster together as people age to create cloud like areas in the lens. This is called senile cataracts and it grows larger until it gets in the way for letting light in making it harder and harder for a person to see. Hence, cataract is the most common cause of blindness.
