It must be noted though that there are other different possible causes of fever. The occurrence of fever however, is the normal body reaction when bacteria invade the body. Fever is generally detected with the increase of body temperature. Similar symptoms is manifested in case of flu which is on the other hand is caused by the influenza virus. Viral infections however are often self-limiting, which means that a person gets better without need for medications. In which case, taking antibiotics for viral infections such as flu would be useless and ineffective.
