Philippine Fruits Good for Diabetics

Fruits are generally considered healthy because they are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients and fiber, which are necessary for the proper management of anyone’s health. While practically all fruits are good for diabetics as long as they are eaten in moderation, there are great fruits that better recommended for diabetics primarily for their low glycemic index which pertains to the effect of their carbohydrates on blood sugar levels. It must be noted that it is the low glycemic index of a fruit and not its taste which makes it ideal for people with diabetes. Following are the fruits in the Philippines that are good for diabetes.
Strawberry – is a great fruit for diabetes because they are naturally sweet which can satisfy the sweet craving of a diabetic but are low in glycemic index.


  • Apples – not only are they low in GI but they can be conveniently be brought and eaten as a snack and are available throughout the year.
  • Pears – are least allergenic of all fruits and are basically similar to apples in terms of convenience to carry and eat.
  • Guavas or bayabas – they are one of the best because of low GI, high fibre and availability across the Philippines all year round.
  • Mango – The Philippines has the best mango in the world and is high in fibre.
  • Pomelo and other citrus fruits – are generally great fruits for their richness in vitamin and natural antioxidant properties.
  • Bananas – Bananas are a good source of fiber, potassium, and vitamin C and are available in practically everywhere in the Philippines
  • Coconut – Coconut is complete meal. It has water and meat that is high in fiber. The water has cleansing properties as well.
