PHA inks tri-sectoral deal with Novartis, Robinsons, VLMP

The Philippine Heart Association (PHA) Healthy Lifestyle (HL) Advocacy Campaign gained additional muscle with the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the PHA, pharmaceutical company Novartis Healthcare Philippines, Robinsons Supermarket and the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines (VMLP). The MOA signing, held last December 14, 2006 at the PHA Heart House office in Timog Avenue, Quezon City, sealed the partnership between the PHA and the three collaborators which pledged support to the HL campaigns of the PHA.

The funding from Novartis will likewise cover the expenditures for producing video advertisements from conceptualization to the actual execution. As part of its agreement with PHA, Robinsons agreed to cooperate in conducting activities that will educate the general public on heart-friendly foods, while fostering strategic alliances with other health organizations, to promote and disseminate information on wellness, healthy living and proper nutrition. Robinsons’ commitment also includes sponsorship of the publicity campaign of the event, as well as the publication of the winning recipes.

Meanwhile, the VMLP committed to take on a proactive role in the PHA HL advocacy. The country’s vice-mayors, who are tasked with presiding the local legislative councils, avowed to pass a resolution urging all its 1,617 members to sponsor legislations related to the promotion of HL in the local government units (LGUs). The VLMP -likewise vowed to render technical assistance to the various LGUs to assist the local government in the campaign for healthy lifestyle among its constituents by providing free seminars and training on HL, healthy diet, updates on available medical technology and other matters related to the HL
advocacy. Another important player which pledged their support for the PHA HL advocacy campaign is advertising company Publicis which agreed to do the advertising campaign free of charge. Ms. Ellen Samano, business unit manager of Publicis said that they are happy to be part of the HL advocacy campaign and pledged to support the PHA in its other healthy lifestyle campaigns.
