GSK Launches One-Stop Resource Guide

Recognizing the significant role of the media in educating the public, Glaxo SmithKline launched and distributed copies of “Type 2 Diabetes Journalist Resource Guide” during the diabetes media workshop held last December 4, 2006. The guidebook is a ‘one-stop information resource’ on all there is to know about the disease.

Dr. Patricia Gatbonton, a member of the Philippine Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism, guided the press in understanding the highlights of the resource guide from introduction, diabetes complications, and management and treatment of the disease to new developments in type 2 diabetes.

To the delight of the workshop participants, the ring-bound guidebook also includes the section “Interpreting diabetes study results” which is handy for every medical writer. Statistics terms were concisely defined and key diabetes studies such as Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT), U.K. Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) and Diabetes Reduction Assessment with Ramipril and Rosiglitazone Medications (DREAM) were briefly but clearly discussed.

GSK has plans of coming up with a book version of the guide in the near future. The comprehensive resource guide is compiled by an Asia Pacific-based diabetes organization.
