Diet Plan for Diabetics
The diet plan for diabetic patients is integral in diabetes management. In a diabetic meal plan, what is important is that the meals will result to the consumption of around 1,600 calories and 220 grams of carbohydrates for the whole day. This is the threshold that a diabetic patient must always keep in mind in selecting their food. Thus, generally speaking, a diabetic can eat all types of food. However some food needs to be taken in moderation so as not to go over the calorie and carb threshold for the day. This threshold can be higher for diabetic patients who are extra active such as athletes and those who engage in rigorous physical exercise. Since fluctuating blood sugar can cause feelings of hunger, it is important to eat snacks which are high on fiber such as vegetables, fruits and peanuts. Becoming a vegetarian is also a healthy alternative. One should also avoid eating with appetizers and condiments as it tends to increase one’s appetite. Choose non fat, sugar free snacks. Finally, it is also important to remember to drink two 8-ounce glasses of water in each meal.
