Many with diabetes remained undiagnosed across the world. Glycation is the nonenzymatic addition of a sugar to amino groups of proteins whose concentration depends on blood glucose concentration and life span. Measuring HbA1c for the diagnosis of diabetes has various advantages over glucose testing. It does not entail fasting, sample can be obtained any time of the day, very low intra-individual variability, stability of blood sample which is not affected by eating, stress and exercise, and it reflects long-term blood glucose concentration.

In measuring hba1c in Boronate Affinity method, the hba1c were bound by immobilized boronic acid to separate them from other hemoglobins. The method generates a more accurate Glycated hemoglobins (hba1c) measurement because it is free from frequent intrusions such as different hemoglobins, non-glycation modifications and hemichromes storage. The process of separation is also insensitive to quantitative errors resulting from minor fluctuations in reagent pH and ionic strength. The procedure is also simpler and cheaper than thiobarbituric acid assay.
