Asthma and Diabetes Link
The link between asthma and diabetes had long been a subject of study among many medical experts and researchers. However until now, there is no conclusive study that have finally validated that asthma and diabetes are absolutely linked.
In the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology in San Francisco, a research paper was presented showing that Asthma increases the risk of developing diabetes. Some researchers believe that the inflammation of the lungs is the common denominator between the two conditions. However the link between asthma and diabetes remains unknown although statistical analysis of the asthmatic patients shows that they are more likely to have diabetes as well as some heart disease.
Inspite of these, there are also studies that show negative association between 1 diabetes and atopic or asthmatic patients. What is validated and confirmed however is that asthma can complicate diabetes care among kids. That means children with asthma will have greater difficulty in controlling their blood sugar under control. While qualitative study shows the complication and difficulty in managing diabetes because of asthma, the link between both diseases remain unclear.
