Ampalaya or bitter melon is a vegetable popular for its bitter taste. In fact, ampalaya had become the traditional example for bitter. Lately, however ampalaya was brought to the people’s attention for its beneficial effect to people with diabetes, which is currently an epidemic in the modern society. Because of this, many people are turning into ampalaya as an herbal supplement in managing diabetes. Since, pregnant women are prone to gestational diabetes, a type of diabetes or glucose imbalance caused by being pregnant, some experts have claimed that ampalaya can be helpful for pregnant women to prevent and control gestational diabetes.

Theoretically, ampalaya can help in bring down glucose level for women suffering gestational diabetes. However, there are still no conclusive studies that validate such claim. Nevertheless, ampalaya is still safe or helpful for pregnant women for its other useful benefits. For one, the fruit is an antioxidant which helps eliminate free radicals and toxins in the body. Some studies show that ampalaya helps in preventing cancer. It helps people suffering from Asthma or chronic cough by loosening sputum in the respiratory tract and lungs.

Ampalaya helps in keeping our skin looking young and free from acne because of the serum that the ampalaya fruit helps promote secreting in Skin. It also help produce digestive enzymes which help people in improving the digestion of food and improving metabolism. It helps in the fast healing of wounds by helping incite and regulate blood flow circulation. Finally, it helps control constipation.

In lieu of the above benefits, ampalaya is definitely helpful for pregnant women and for their babies in their wombs.
