For the first time, the Philippines played host to the 411 Asian Congress of Dietetics this April 23 to 26, 2006 at the Philippine International Convention Center. With the theme “Nutrition and Dietetics in a Borderless Society”, the Asian Forum of Dietetic Professionals and Nutritionists-Dietitians’ Association of the Philippines (NDAP) intend to disseminate information on food, nutrition, dietetic concerns and complementary alternative medicine.

Upon the agreement among the best nutrition experts from Thailand, Taipei, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong and the Philippines, the Asian Forum of Dietetic Professionals (AFDP) was formed in 1991 at the Asian Congress of Nutrition in Kuala Lumpur. Motivated with a common vision, AFDP aspires to promote and upgrade the dietetic profession and establish collaboration and linkages in research and education in Asia.

A pool of international speakers including renowned dietitians and researchers will impart their knowledge on the advancements of dietetics during plenary sessions, simultaneous symposia and exhibits. The congress will concentrate on a wide range of topics including harmonization of growth and nutrition standards as well as dietetics curriculum.

Healthy lifestyles and food choices in the light of the rising borderlessness of food production and consumption will also be tackled. Advances on the prevention of cancer and obesity will be also covered. Current concepts on functional food, nutrigenomics and nutritional immunology will be also discussed. The congress will also explore new nutritional products and services to upgrade the dietitian’s dietetic practice.
The Dr. Chwang Leh Chii Asian Dietetics Award will be also given to a dietetic practitioner who has made significant contributions, both locally and internationally, toward enhancing the dietetic profession. The award provides a cash gift of $1,000 and a plaque courtesy of Dr. Chwang Leh Chii, the donor.
