Question: I have erectile dysfunction. Is this related to my diabetes?
Answer: It goes without saying that the measure of a man’s “manliness” is the ability of his “manhood” to snap to attention. This holds especially true to the macho-centric culture of the Filipinos. A male’s inability to answer to the call of his partner’s sexual desire is more than just opportunity lost but more of a personal insult if not utter curse. True enough, this has been a growing problem among our diabetic patients, a condition which is often underdiagnosed, since discussion about this problem is usually not tackled on the initial consult when patient rapport is not yet well established. Very seldom is this fact volunteered by patients unless categorically asked.
